Dentures

A denture is a removable dental plate replacing missing teeth. They are made closely to resemble your natural teeth, rebuild your smile and restore the function. It improves your chewing, speech and digestion.

There are 2 types of removable dentures- 'Complete and partial'. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth are missing. A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents the other teeth from shifting. A complete denture may be 'Conventional' or 'immediate'. A conventional denture is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4-6 weeks. During this time, the patient will go without teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

Fixed (implant supported over denture)

Another alternative is Implant supported denture that is supported by and attached to implants fixed in the bone. This results in increase chewing efficiency and self confidence without the fear of slipping or falling out.

Dentistry is no longer just a case of filling and extracting teeth, as it was for many years. Nowadays many people turn to cosmetic dentistry, or ‘aesthetic dentistry', as a way of improving their appearance, much as they would use cosmetic surgery or even a new hairstyle.
